Good Evening All,
I’m glad to have you all attending Perryville this year. We are pleased that there has been a larger than usual turn out. We wanted to go over a few things with you and ask you to share with your group. I am sending this as you have been indicated as the POC for your unit. Please share this with your membership.
Check in will open at noon on Friday. It will be in the museum and one of the museum staff will assist you. If you have not signed a waiver you will need to do so at that time. Any of your folks that are on the will call list will need to pay their registration fees at that time also. After 8:00 p.m. on Friday night check in will be held in the small shelter adjacent to Civil War Hall. It will close at midnight and re-open at 8:30 in the morning at the small picnic shelter and remain open until 3:00 p.m. If anyone needs to check in after that they will need to check in at the museum on Sunday morning. Due to the nature of this event we cannot accommodate walk-ons.
Each organization has a living history package that should be picked up by someone in your organization at check-in. In it you will find the alter-ego program. This includes the names of the men who fought at Perryville. Please give these out to each of your military members. You will also find chits to Mr. Kennedy’s Sutlery located at the end of the Civil Camping Area. Each military reenactor who pre-registered has 1.00 in chits included in your package. Please make sure you disseminate them among your men. The sutlery will be open on Saturday morning for business. This is an awesome living history opportunity that we are happy to provide.
The camping area this year for all participants is located in the living history area. For those of you who were with us last year the lay out will be basically the same given it does not pour anymore rain. Please check in with the military commanders as to an appropriate place to camp. This is very important in the CS Military Camping Area as it is going to be crowded. The military POC in the camp is Brian Chastain and the CS overall commander is Chad Wrinn of the Breckenridge Greys – Chad Greene is the Federal commander and reenactor coordinator for Perryville and his adjutant is Micah Trent. Civilians will camp between the two armies. Shelly Graves can assist you in the civilian area. These are all within very close proximities to each other.
WE have had a lot of rain. At some point we may stop traffic in camps to prevent a huge and mess and people getting stuck. We will have vehicles to convey your camp in if need be. Please be aware and be patient no one wants to get stuck.
Please make sure that everyone in your group has reviewed the standards for participation. There is a public educational tour both days and the camps remain open to the public during the entire event. Those who have been with us the last few years are familiar with this tour and if your group wishes to participate in it please let me know before Friday.
Registration for 2016 is open and if you wish to register for the event you will have the chance to do so at check-in for a reduced rate.
We are again doing our ration program. This is a very popular program and is a great living history opportunity as well that we are happy to provide for you. We have even copied some period recipes that will help you prepare the ration issue. The recipes will be at check in also.
I hope I’ve answered some questions and provided you with helpful information. Perryville is truly hallowed ground and we are happy to host you at one of the nation’s best living history events. Travel safely and we will see you this weekend.
Thanks so much!
Joni
